Golden Globe Beauty – What Worked and What Didn’t

There was so much South Asian and Middle Eastern influence on the red carpet with designers like Naeem Khan and And Zuhair Murad making appearances.

We saw vintage waves make a popular come back, especially to the side and lots of pulled back hair and tousled buns. Other than some bright lip colors, makeup was soft and romantic.

When thinking about your wedding, similar to the red carpet, consider the entire package including the outfit and jewelry-it should be harmonious. If you decide to go POW POW on every aspect, you may just look like an explosion of stuff. Here’s how the stars made it work.

1. Lesson: Combine sexy outfits with soft and romantic makeup and hair

What worked?

Obviously the sheer, intricate dress was a show stopper. Thankfully, Jennifer kept her look soft and pretty with soft grey smokey eyes, nude lips, blending in with her skin color and body. She emanated sophistication with structured vintage waves, swept to the side. And the ombre highlights added dimension subtly.

What wouldn’t have worked?

It would have been easy for her to look border line trashy with her hot bod and sheer dress. Think voluminous hair combined with a dramatic smokey eye with that dress?

2. Lesson: Don’ be afraid of color (not that most South Asian brides are)

What Worked?

Canada’s own Beau Nelson beautified Miss. Richie. Her face was kept from disappearing behind her head to toe blue gown, by bringing the same color into her makeup, by applying it just to the lid. Her eyes popped with mascara and corner lashes. The rest of her face was a very neutral, nude palette.

Her hair also would have worked pulled back as long as it was soft.

What wouldn’t have worked?

The busy outfit would have clashed with a different color on her eyes or even a bright lip. Remember it’s all about harmony.

3. Lesson: Simplicity can be striking

What worked?

Jennifer looked like a modern day princess and Katharine, her sexy step sister. By keeping their hair pulled back and makeup in the neutral families, they highlighted their structured silhouettes and let their outfits compliment their natural beauty, stunning as they are.

I would have liked to see some more color on Jennifer’s Lips, balancing out all that red.

What wouldn’t have worked?

Since they both have longish hair, hair down would have taken away from their gowns.
